Strong start to Perth home stand for the Boomers

Australia open the FIBA World Cup qualifiers with a punishing 124 - 52 win over Guam

It didn’t take long for the Boomers to get going at RAC Arena exposing Guam with a relentless barrage to win 124 - 52 in front of 5580 at RAC Arena in Perth.

Tyrese Proctor was electric from the start and pushed the momentum for Australia. It was SEM Phoenix guard Angus Glover that did damage in the first half with 14 points and three consecutive long-range makes.

Halfway through the first, Australian’s got what they have waited for years to see. Bryce Cotton running out in the green and gold.

The six-time NBL MVP worked through soreness and warmed as the game continued and was at his distributing best with five assists at the half.

One of the best moments of the game came with a breakaway slam from WA hometown hero Keanu Pinder.

The physicality picked up in the second with Cleveland guard Proctor receiving a heavy tag from Matt Fegrurgur. A lengthy review by the officials resulted in a charity stripe trip to BJ Freeman.

An added level of spice warmed up the West Australian crowd, paired with a nice block by Perth favourite David Okwera on an early rotation.

The Boomers were relentless for the remainder. An intent that was confirmed by Adam Caporn in the post-match press conference.

The challenge goes up a notch for the Boomers on Monday with Gilas Pilipinas inbound for Perth.
